I tried KOI8-R too! But the manpage needs to be installed to be
viewable, calling man ./hex-a-hop.ru.6 does not work (but does for
other languages)!

No, these are command and file names which consist in Debian only of
7bit ASCII data. Otherwise you would fail to copy and paste it ...

Think of \(hy as just another dash such as en- or em-dash which is used
in typography.

I also wonder that hyphens look in the Russian manpage identical to minus
signs. In the German translation they are shorter!? Maybe another font
is used which doesn't provide \(hy??????
