Mame window issue in Ubuntu

I can confirm the bug reported on Launchpad:

btw, once resized the windows shows properly. My guess is this is
related to Unity, anyone is running Gnome or KDE?

Full screen display (-nowindow) has been the default in Ubuntu package
so far and that's probably why nobody reported the issue before.
On the other hand, I see the Debian packages sets -window as default.

Solving the bug will probably require some time, meanwhile a lot of
complaints will fill both Launchpad and my mailbox. ;)
Could we consider setting -nowindow as default for the time being?
