agree, right we can do this for 0.148 (or later :) it is no hurry
Actually by a separate source package it would mean a different
repository with a different /debian
(so the source package would be a mame-extra_0.148.tar.xz )
since I am not 100% sure of this the RIGHT WAY(tm) we should ask the
nice folks on debian-devel-games first.
Downside of the source package is that this new source package would
require an initial upload from a sponsor.

Since we don't ship the 0.xxxu packages in debian/ubuntu I don't think
we should use the master branch for that (it would botch tools like
debcheckout) I would rather create a 0.147u branch that you can rebase
from a time to time from the master branch
