Bug#760983: minetest: Mods don't apply. What is the proper way?

Package: minetest
Version: 0.4.6+repack-6
Severity: normal

Hi,

I'm trying to use mods with Mitetest. However, there is no change in gameplay,
and the mods are not visible in the configuration menu. Seems like they are
completely ignored.

Example: Naturepack mod from
https://forum.minetest.net/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=729
I unpack the archive into ~/.minetest/mods/
The archive contains a neko259-nature..... directory that I rename to
naturepack so that I have now
~/.minetest/mods/naturepack/
with mod files inside. The mod is said to be tested on minetest version 0.4.4
so should run on 0.4.6 I hope.

There might be a bug in mods support. Or am I doing something wrong? I don't
even know whether the minetest in Debian is compiled with mods support, and in
that case, where and how the mods should be placed in order to get active.
Google offers no useful idea for me.
