You aren't clear in exactly what you disagree with (download-at-all or

They might, but they equally might be contested as such. They
unequivocally were *not* released with Doom. There isn't consensus on
just how canon they are that makes it a bad choice as a default. It's
also surprising for game-data-packager to do network stuff when the user
thinks they're supplying all the data needed to complete the operation.
There's also a scaling issue. Yes they are a little bit special as
PWADs. So is IDMAP01. What if Romero drops another 10 PWADs? Or Willits
starts releasing them? Or perhaps we should consider Willits' existing
PWADs to be just as special? a .deb and a .desktop entry for each?
