Remember, that this specific problem can easily be solved by

$ sed -i 's/sleekxmpp/slixmpp/g' debian/control \
    ECtools/presence/kopano_presence/plugin_xmpp.py

The other open RC bug is tagged "patch", too.

But do whatever seems sane for you and Debian :-)
