We've never discussed the problem with upstream, I think. I doubt we can
talk them into using a dfsg-free licensing of the logo, but maybe we can
find a course of action that keeps both sides happy. Simply exchanging
the logo for something else appears to be the very thing the logo clause
in the license intends to avoid.

All IM needs is .so, and optionally .la for libtool. Alternatively, you
can configure with --disable-modules and just put all the coders in the
library itself. Also, feel free to steal from the packaging of
graphicsmagick, available eg. from
http://hg.debian.org/hg/pkg-gmagick/graphicsmagick/sid/patches
