Package: gnome-panel
Version: 2.4.1-4
Severity: important

Since upgrading to this version of gnome-panel I've found that the panel
regularly hangs, becoming completely unresponsive to user interaction.
Panel applets in separate processes appear to function just fine but the
panel itself does not redraw or otherwise respond to interaction.

When this happens the process is reported as using 100% of the CPU.
Attaching strace to the process shows no activity for an extended period
of time.

I believe the change was introduced with the 2.4 upgrade though I'm not
100% certain on that.
