Severity: important
Since GTK 2.4.0, the file chooser depends upon some Nautilus component to tell it which icon theme to use. When that
component is not running (such as when running a GTK2.4-based application outside the GNOME environment - in my
case, under icewm), the file chooser shows no icon, which makes it impossible to distinguish a file from a folder.
I cannot consider this issue a wishlist item, because it truely cripples using applications outside the full GNOME
desktop, even though GTK itself is not supposed to be dependant upon GNOME. It truely creates serious usability
issuesl, hence why it is an important, perhaps even RC bug.
The cure would be for GTK to have some hard-coded default icons to revert to, in case a GTK2.4-based application is
started under KDE or under a non-related window manager not based on GTK.

Correct. 2.4.4 indeed reverts to default icons, so I'm closing this bug.
Thanks to Seb for pointing this solution out.
