Package: libgnome2-0

Severity: important

In trying to install libgnome2-0 from unstable on my ppc machine, I
get the following result.

landofratop:~/debian-devel/libgnome_2.6.1/libgnome-2.6.1/debian# apt-get -t unstable install libgnome2-0

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

It isn't. I've figured it out now.

Strict dependencies prevent version skew issues which may be subtle (and
thus hard to debug) or not so subtle.

libgnome2-common is an architecture independent package, i.e. it needs to be
built just once rather than once for every port. The libgnome2-common
package you're seeing is the one uploaded by Ondrej. Ondrej did an upload of
libgnome built on the architecture he works on (probably i386). Now
libgnome2-0 is architecture dependent so it needs to be built for your
architecture (powerpc) specifically. This is typically done through the
Debian autobuilder infrastructure (see http://buildd.debian.org and
http://www.buildd.net) and takes some time. In this case, a powerpc
autobuilder has built libgnome2-0 2.6.1-3, but the resulting package is not
yet installed in the archive (this will happen in about 12 hours); it can
currently be downloaded from http://incoming.debian.org/ .

As this problem will be fixed in the archive soon and a temporary workaround
is available, I'm taking the liberty of closing this report.
