Package: gnome-applets
Version: 2.4.2-2
Severity: important

New bugs since gnome-applet 2.4:

1) using a hotkey to switch maps no longer works, but used to work fine with gnome-applets 2.2. I see the frame of
the "flag" in the applet flashing, but the map doesn't switch. Trying to redefine the key changes nothing.

2) the applet mangles the default xfree86 map used by the session to such an extent that it messes metakeys. Among
other things, it prevents me from using the traditional ctrl-alt-F* to switch consoles to a framebuffer.

Another bug that has been there in every gkb version I have tried since Gnome 1.4.x:

The gkb maps maps conflict with the standard xfree86 maps, making them essentially useless. Among other things, in
gkb maps, deadkeys are non-existent even for locales where they are the default. My own example is the Finnish
keyboard map: the one in xfree86 has several deadkeys and AltGr keys (expected on a standard Finnish keyboard), while
the Finnish gkb map doesn't have them.

As this bug is an xlib bug and as it is masked as pending, it will be ok
soon (even if probably not in sarge :-(, this will be considered fixed.

I guess the gnome-keyboard-layout should not be used anymore and is
gonna disappear but i am not sure.

Using the "Gnome Keyboard Default" ensure using configuration from the
new keyboard layout switcher whereas using other settings is probably
using basic X layouts.

As there is no real bug remaining, i'm closing this bug.
Open a new one if you have other problems.
