alsa is not currently installed as part of any sarge task no matter what
kernel is detected. AFAIK it is also not supported by discover1 at all.

FWIW, I have seen this bug in my test installs too. Gnome's assumption
of alsa is incorrect.

Is it a dependency of gnome-desktop-environment? If not, no, of course
it will not be installed by default.
