that's weird. How have you made your tests ? You should report this
issue upstream too ...

Offering an option is not a probably, but building and supporting
different backends is extra work, takes more place in the archive, ...
I've splitted totem in both backends because gstreamer is not good
enough for the video playing for the moment, but the audio support
should good enough for most of the users. BTW I'm interested to get more
details in the CPU consummation problem.
