Ok, I know now what is the problem. The reported
problem happens only when I use KDE. Under Gnome, dia
works perfectly. However, I would like to be able to
use dia both under KDE and Gnome.

By the way, I have installed following dia files:

beat@jupiter:beat$ dpkg -l | grep Diagram
ii  dia            0.94.0-1       Diagram editor
ii  dia-common     0.94.0-1       Diagram editor
(common files)
ii  dia-gnome      0.94.0-1       Diagram editor
(GNOME version)
ii  dia-libs       0.94.0-1       Diagram editor
(library files)

Maybe dia-gnome is the culprit?
