Bug#271691: panel notification area

I had deleted the edge panel where I had the panel notification area.
While the panel was gone, I tried to start the panel manager and it did
the same thing that gnome-terminal sometimes does.  Flash a screen or
something at the mouse pointer for less than a second and disappear like
it starts and immediately closes.  I added a new panel and placed the
notification applet on there and now I can start the panel manager but
gdesklets still does not load on startup.  It is on the splash screen
but not in the notification area!  If I execute gdesklets start from a shell,
the icon does appear in the notification area as expected.  Is there any
more info that you need?
