I'm not happy about getting rid of the full dependency, but I
acknolowedge that udev is causing troubles for some people (I for one
have no 2.6.12 yet, as I'm waiting for the debian images to be available
in sid), so I would consider, if other team members are ok with the
idea, to bring back the magicdev alternative, either for the while it
takes to stabilise udev, or "forever" as it was in Sarge.

Just not forcing the installation of one of them with a dependency isn't
something I'm willing to do because I consider device mounting critical
for GNOME.

GNOME team, what should we do?
