Bug#349835: Applications menu is a 1px by 1px box

Applications menu shows for a second at normal size, then turns into a
1px by 1px box, rendering it useless. The Places and Desktop menu are
normal.

Unlike bug #308515, this happens all the time - even with a new user.
Some of my packages are from testing but most are from unstable, like I
am still using xorg from testing.
