For the out of sync issue, can you try the stand alone xine player
(package xine-ui) and see if you have the same problems. That way maybe
we can figure out if it's a bug in totem or in the xine library.

I'm not entirely sure. The gstreamer backend follows the settings in
gstreamer-properties, but I don't know if the xine backend does the
same.
