Hi,

This should work. I have tried this on an up to date system with the
w32codecs installed. 

Can you launch totem with the stream as an argument from a terminal and
see if you get any error messages? 

Also make sure that the w32codecs package is indeed installed and the
following files exists on the system: 
/usr/lib/codecs/wmv9dmod.dll 
/usr/lib/codecs/wmvdmod.dll
