I definitely do not use the ae fonts. The font is
/usr/share/texmf-texlive/fonts/type1/bluesky/cm/cmr10.pfb.
The input file is attached. I use pdflatex:

Confirmed.
Anyway, even though there may be better fonts I can use, that does
not justify the broken text selection behaviour of evince. xpdf sees
separate characters for the overlay, but it doesn't break so
spectacularly.
