$ cat .dmrc

[Desktop]
Session=gnome
Language=en_GB.UTF-8

Would it make any difference that I hardly ever log out of that
particular box? (.dmrc is timestamped 2009-03-08 and I will not be
logging out any time this month.) On a machine where I do logout
(or reboot) fairly regularly, there is an extra XDG variable:

$ printenv | grep XDG
XDG_DATA_DIRS=/usr/share/gnome:/usr/local/share/:/usr/share/:/usr/share/gdm/
XDG_SESSION_COOKIE=d9fd1ab2fe52920d978517c4484ca127-1242926751.866405-562413250

(and a working XDG_DATA_DIRS and a working PDF download operation.)

Maybe a note in the Help section on using the Download Manager?
