Bug#593128: meld: UI missing features; does not exit on window close

I can confirm this bug,
it happened recently (approximatively 1 month ago).
it makes the application unusable (the "left|right merge" buttons are 
missing).
I don't know if the issue is related to a meld update or a meld 
dependency update.

attached is a log of a quick meld session (now much more noisy than it 
was a some time ago)
