Bug#760854: rhythmbox package crashes after manipulating volume via socket

Package: rhythmbox
Version: 2.97-2.1
Problem:
After installing 'remotebox' Rhythmbox plugin (a very simplistic app that
lets you choose songs and manipulate basic controls.. uses a socket for
communication) and using an Android app to manipulate the volume of
Rhythmbox, the program crashes. As I mentioned on IRC, I am not not yet
determined whether the problem is with the plugin, Rhythmbox itself, X or
my window manager.
It seems to complain about an IO error on X. I've tried running Rhythmbox
in a terminal and debug mode and the logging is very verbose.
Reproduce:
After you have a song playing, adjust the volume a few times using the app
and it will crash. Differs each time but if you change volume constantly
over a few seconds, it will certainly crash.
Logs:
I do see this line frequently logged, but according to a similar bug report
( https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=660113 ), this is only
a warning and not a problem:
> GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_value_get_uint: assertion `G_VALUE_HOLDS_UINT
(value)' failed
When the program is crashing, it renders:
Gdk-WARNING **: rhythmbox: Fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily
unavailable) on X server :0.
Content of ~/.xsession-errors:
