I'd keep it. Conceptually the script solution has some advantages, and
if users want to opt into that, it's fine.

Right, we incidentally just discussed that situation the last couple of
days on IRC
vte is for gtk2, will need a bit longer to get rid of.
vte2.91 is the successor of vte3 (confusing, I know) and we should get
rid of vte3. Will hopefully find some time to file bugs against the
rdeps of vte3 to migrate to vte2.91. If someone wants to beat me to it,
I wouldn't complain :-)
