Well, I disagree with this. It is fine to tell Tong to go the simpler
way since the tooling is not there yet. But we agreed to move to this
new workflow almost a year ago, and I have been consistently following
it and converting repos as I go about updating packages.

I understand not everybody wants to do it by hand, and that people don't
have the time to fix the tooling, but I think we should at least
consider these migrations steps in the right direction.
