Package: grub-pc
Version: 1.96+20090808-1
Severity: normal
Hi,
googling this topic I found some threads concerning this problem in the upstreams devel mailing list:
http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/grub-devel/2009-06/msg00264.html
http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/grub-devel/2009-07/msg00509.html
So the maintainers know about the problem and since there were some patches I tested the unstable
version from August 08. But still the same 'no mapping exists' error. Here is the output, please
excuse the german parts:
Entpacke Ersatz für grub-pc ...
Richte grub-pc ein (1.96+20090808-1) ...
Replacing config file /etc/default/grub with new version

done
So I thought perhaps it is the device.map and added some fancy entries for my dmraid devices:
# cat device.map
(hd0) /dev/mapper/isw_gcbehhdgb_Volume0
(hd0,0) /dev/mapper/isw_gcbehhdgb_Volume01
(hd0,1) /dev/mapper/isw_gcbehhdgb_Volume02
(hd0,5) /dev/mapper/isw_gcbehhdgb_Volume06
(hd0,4) /dev/mapper/isw_gcbehhdgb_Volume05
(hd2) /dev/sda
Unluckily, still the same errors:
# grub-install --modules="linux pc raid ext2 jfs biosdisk" /dev/mapper/isw_gcbehhdgb_Volume01
grub-probe: error: no mapping exists for `isw_gcbehhdgb_Volume01'
grub-probe: error: no mapping exists for `isw_gcbehhdgb_Volume01'
grub-setup: error: no mapping exists for `isw_gcbehhdgb_Volume01'
No solution in sight on my side.
Thanks,
Cornell
