Bug#561386: running grub-install in chroot breaks host boot (/dev/sda)

Package: grub-pc
Version: 1.98~20091210-1

I want to fix a non-booting disk (/dev/sde, usb) on another host in a
chroot provided by the testing rescue cd. If I run grub-install in this
chroot, then it corrupts /dev/sda. On the next boot grub cannot find
the config file on the host. I have to run the rescue CD again to fix
/dev/sda.

The same problem exists for the "install grub boot loader" option on
the rescue CD.

/chroot/etc/mtab does not mention /dev/sda, nor does /chroot/boot/grub/\
device.map.

Only if I disable /dev/sda in the BIOS and enable it after the rescue,
then /dev/sda is not corrupted.

Can anybody reproduce this?

Regards

Harri
