hm maybe something simliar as in #505137
Could you please show the output of hexdump -Cn 512 /dev/hda1?
Maybe you had a fat filesystem and mkfs.ext2 didn't overwrite the first
512 bytes.
Else I don't have a clue what the problem could be.
