What does this mean?
Did you had the grub package of squeeze installed previously and so
grub-legacy and now got grub2 because it now depends on grub-pc?
Then just install os-prober and run update-grub again.
Or did you had previously grub2 and now an upgrade removed it?
If you directly add it to grub.cfg then of course it gets removed.
Notice the warning at the top.
you have to use /etc/grub.d/40_custom for custom menu entrys or copy
that file to some other /etc/grub.d/ file.
