Bug#565685: fails to boot with "sparse file not allowed"

Package: grub-pc
Version: 1.98~20100115-1
Severity: grave

Since the most recent upgrade the PC fails to boot via grub. I get the
menu to select the kernel to boot, but then I see a

Booting 'Debian GNU/Linux, with Linux 2.6.32.3'
	error: sparse file not allowed.
	Failed to boot default entries.
	Press any key to continue...

If I do, then I am back to the menu. Running grub-install in a chroot
did not solve the problem. But moving back to version 1.98~20100110-1 did.

root file system is reiserfs, usually mounted with "notail, relatime".

Regards

Harri
