Herman,
~    Your info doesn't seem to indicate that you have a JDK, but that
rather you only have a JRE installed.  Which JDK are you attempting to
use?  If it is not one of the ones indicated in the /etc/init.d/tomcat4
startup script, you will have to specify it in /etc/default/tomcat4.  If
you do intend to use Blackdown, please install the Blackdown JDK and not
the JRE.
