Package: libcommons-math-java
Version: 2.2-2
Severity: wishlist

Dear Maintainer,

Version 3.0 of Apache Commons Math has been released a few months ago (March
2012). Up to now, Debian packages only the previous version 2.2. Version 3.0 is
a major release bringing many new features and fixing numerous bugs. It would
be worht having it packaged for Debian systems.

Please note that in accordance to Apache Commons policy to avoid jar hell
situations for end users, this major released implied a change of top level
java package name from "org.apache.commons.math" to "org.apache.commons.math3".
This means that this version of the library *can* be used together with the
former 2.x version. So the Debian package should not be declared as replacing
the existing one, but should allow both versions to be installed (and used).
One way to achieve this would be to do the same thing that was already done for
Apache Commons Lang, Apache Commons Collections and Apache Commons Net, and to
create a new Debian package libcommons-math3-java.
