    * What led up to the situation?

Upgrading to latest Unstable Digikam version

    * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
      ineffective)?

No workaround tried as Digikam exits immediately after database 
migration fails.

checking databases (mysqlcheck) reports no error.
