Unfortunately, I didn't see your report in time. Now Debian has 8.5.0 in the
archive.

I tried the Google Photo importer plugin and indeed it failed for me, but with
some different behaviour.

After authenticating, the browser address did NOT show a port zero ("http://
127.0.0.1:0/"). However, Digikam produced an error dialog with the text:

    Error transferring https://photoslibrary.googleapis.com/v1/albums?
    pageSize=50 - server replied:

(text ends there, no server reply displayed)

I will open an upstream bug report on the 8.5 behaviour. If you have a chance
to upgrade and try again, I'd be interested to know what behaviour you see
with 8.5.
