Done. As you know, I'm a big fan of small commits, so that's the way I
did all of these (and marked them pending).

Done too (slightly different patch).
Also, I've got the x.org transition bits almost sorted out.
Christopher, I'd like to hear if you had any work on progress re the
C++ transition, so that I don't start with it and we end up stepping
onto each other's toes. If not, I'll get it done during these days,
unless for some reason you prefer to do it yourself.
