The biggest problem, as I see it, is that choosing .kde screws our current 
kde4 users, because data also isn't migrated "the other way", and choosing 
.kde4 screws the kde3 users on upgrade.

I don't know if any of you have noticed it, but in general, I'm quite against 
appending the number 4 anywhere if it can be avoided.
