Google says that different devices fail after different time or volume of
data. Reliable kernels seem to be 3.12.32, 3.17.4-3.17.6. Maybe 4.0.1 and
4.0.5. I'm going to test them all.
And yes, your thought about power seems to be correct because users with
disabled USB power management are not affected.
