first of all, @Shirish, please follow Adrian's advise on this and the
general purpose of bug reporting. I have also though about writing
some general stuff back to you on this.

And... I have seen this issue, too. Just yesterday.
I need to sit down and reproduce it, though. What I had was:
o and empty i3 desktop workarea
o with only an rdesktop session running in windowed mode (not fullscreen)
o mate-screensaver came on
o the password field would not gain focus whatsoever
The easiest trick then is:
o go to a text based tty
o log in as the user running the MATE session
o killall mate-screensaver
o switch back to the MATE session (it is now unlocked)
