Hi Mike,
This was also an option at the back of my mind (killing
mate-screensaver) but other than don't have the freedom to do what has
been shared. There are only two options left now, either we wait for
Mike to give some direction or you guys close the bug.

The other option (of doing things from scratch)  is just too much hard
work, as I'll have to backup my proile, my data as well as a list of
all installed apps. I do hope to get another machine where such
experiments can be worked/looked upon but that is couple of months in
the future.
