Thank you for your swift reply, although there is no progress... I reported this problem to the Mate GitHub and there came the following reply, soon enough:

This is broken for caja GTK3.
And this is the wrong package and already reported.
They also include this link: GTK3: Backgrounds and Emblems dialog does not work · Issue #506 · mate-desktop/caja

I hope that this issue will be solved.
