Hi,

My sponsor Mike had the same concern.

The answer I gave him is that I prefer not to exert a separate
copyright for my Debian packaging but consider it a small part of the
larger whole. In the same way, Satyajit Sahoo isn't truly the original
author of every single part of numix-icon-theme but is still able to
claim the whole copyright because that's how his project is set up.

My intent is to license my Debian packaging with the same license and
copyright as upstream.

My understanding of the 12.5 note for
https://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/upgrading-checklist.html#s-3.9.3.0
is that this is ok.
