Currently we are not able to reproduce your issue.
The --sync parameter in the caja*.desktop file(s) certainly is a workaround.
Please help us to reproduce this issue with a more detailled howto
about how we can produce your issue (like: install a Debian system
from scratch, install the MATE packages, etc.pp.).
