Right, I wanted to comment on this. The important point here is that
many people have criticized the Debian GNOME maintainers for that
decision. Installing the gnome meta package pulls a ton of quite
unrelated packages which has caused several people filing bug reports.

For example, many users found the fact annoying that installing gnome
resulted in installing Adblock Plus as well.
