Which upstream release are you referring to?

All the pages I can find about the user-agent-switcher extension say
that it is incompatible with Firefox Quantum and that there have been
no changes to it in recent years.

Note that both of these are *very* different to the existing plugin so
I suggest that the upstream author be pinged about their update that
was mentioned in the existing bug report that you have duplicated:
