I have tried to reproduce this issue with

firefox -profile /tmp/ -no-remote -new-instance

and ublock-origin being the only addon installed. What I see is that the
sidebar is enabled on first start and the ublock logger is selected by
default. I don't think this is a bug but merely a Firefox default
setting. I don't find it annoying and you can quickly close the sidebar
by clicking on the "show sidebars" button. Please note that many addons
show some sort of information / first start page when you install them.
For instance webext-privacy-badger will open a new Tab and explain what
this addon is good for.

So in a nutshell I think everything works as expected.
