So I could reproduce this again in my normal profile, but an important
data point is that I can't reproduce in a *clean* profile. So I suspect
it's something to do with my configuration.
I've tried to bisect my extension list to figure out where the problem
was, suspectig there was an incompatibility with some other extension. I
was happy and surprised to find out that I could actually use the debian
packaged extension when all my extensions were disabled... and when I
re-enabled them all back again, things still worked!
So TL;DR: there's a workaround, which is to:
1. disable all extensions
2. backup the umatrix extension
3. remove it from the add-ons
4. install the `webext-umatrix` package
5. restore the umatrix settings
6. re-enable all extensions
Maybe this will blow up in my face soon, but so far so good! ;)
