there hasn't anything changed within the source of Thunderbird regarding
the folder were extensions get searched.

There can be multiple reasons, the first thing that I see is the key
strict_max_version within the files manifest.json all related binary
packages for tbsync.

These are all set to 69.*, but you are on TB 76.0 right now. There is
normally a reason why upstream developers doing that. Mainly they cant
ensure their extension also working with newer versions of Thunderbird
(or Firefox). Best is to get in touch with upstream.
It's not enough to increase these versions as I've tested.

I typically install the extension in question locally within my profile
and analyze differences between my packaging and the content which was
installed into $(HOME)/.thunderbird/$profile/extensions.

Seems we will start the usual update dance for Thunderbird extensions
again and again. :( A lot of trust is lost by this up and down of MZLN.
The most important extension is Enigmail so far, still no state of
things from MZLN regarding this topic for TB 78.
