The idea initially arose when I felt that about 50% of the last half 
year's bug reports against ffmpeg and its libraries could be closed 
instantly, because the users had mixed up "our" libraries with 
external snapshots -- mostly Marillat's. Dependencies like ">=" won't 
help much, since Marillat updates his snapshot on a regular basis and 
thus his packages are nearly all the time ">=" relative to ours.
