Dear Alessio,

I have seen on debian-devel that you are intending to package a
software (divxenc) for Debian that uses Mencoder for transcoding.
However, there is no such package providing the Mencoder software in
Debian (yet).

But there is a project called debimedia going on in the pkg-multimedia
maintainers team to create an archive for packages that are published
under a DFSG-free license but cannot be included in the Debian archive
for other, mostly patent-related issues. More information can be found
on the wiki page:
http://wiki.debian.org/DebianMultimedia/debimedia

I would like to invite you to join the Debian pkg-multimedia team and
work with us on these and other packages. E.g. I am currently
preparing transcode and dvdrip packages which I have taken from ubuntu
multiverse and I have seen that it was you who introduced them there
based on the marrilat packages. The git repos can be found here:
http://git.debian.org/?p=pkg-multimedia/transcode.git;a=summary
http://git.debian.org/?p=pkg-multimedia/dvdrip.git;a=summary

Any help on this would be highly appreciated.

If you are interested to join us, please do so on out alioth page:
https://alioth.debian.org/projects/pkg-multimedia/

cheers,
Fabian
