yeah, the technical details for mencoder was quite silly, but ftp-master
insisted on finding a general solution for the whole mess. it seems this
has been found now, at least that's how I understand it.

Stefano explicitly asked me to not follow up on #522373, I guess they
will want to answer it themselves. However, I personally don't expect a
quick response there.
